One Arranged Marriage or Murder?

    “One Arranged Murder” book is a romantic murder-fictional book written by famous author Chetan Bhagat in 2020. The book evolves around two friends - Keshav and Saurabh and involves love, friendship, family, thriller, mystery and of course Murder. The book will surely keep you entertained till the end and can give a roller coaster feeling to the readers.

THE STORYLINE

          The book story evolve around Keshav and Saurabh who are flat mates, best friends, colleagues and also business partners of their detective agency (Z’s detective agency). This are the same characters whom we have read about in the last book of Chetan Bhagat “A Girl in Room 105” but although of their long friendship in this story, they both are not on good terms and the reason is ‘Prerna’

          Prerna is Saurabh’s fiancé. As Prerna is on little heavier side Keshav’s behavior and thinking towards her is critical. Keshav keeps on complaining about Prerna’s weight and size to Saurabh till one incident where the matter gets so messy that they get into a huge fight and both of them stop talking to each other.

          On the other side Prerna and Saurabh are shown as a lovey-dovey and cheesy couple whom were met on a Marriage site and instantly got connected. Saurabh’s behavior towards Keshav has changed after Prerna entered his life. He is became less interested in their business and also kept on ignoring Keshav which started to bother him and then as I told earlier ended up in a huge messy fight.

          So the main story starts when Prerna decided to keep a Karvachaut fast for Saurabh even though they are not married. She keep fast all day and in the evening she calls Saurabh on her terrace to break the fast. Because of traffic Saurabh reaches Prerna’s house little late and from back enterance of the house he goes towards the terrace. But when he reaches the terrace he find no one on the terrace but only Prerna’s chunni and after some time he finds what was happened to be a murder; Prerna’s murder.

THE WRITING STYLE

          The writing style of this book is like every other book of Chetan Bhagat using simple language with a touch of Bollywood style. It involves Friendship, Romance, Suspense, Mystery and Family drama. It is also a fast based book and you get engrossed into the book after only reading 20 pages of it. Also the author here has adapted different format of narration in this book.

WHO CAN READ THIS BOOK

          As we all know Chetan Bhagat’s book have simple language which can be read by every type of readers whether they are beginner or intermediate reader. The book also involves little punch of Bollywood masala writing in it which makes the reader more involved in the book. Beginners would preferably like this book more as the book does not come with difficult words, and they would surely enjoy it.

NARRATION

            Although, majority of book is done in first person’s narration that is from the view point of Keshav but here in this book Chetan Bhagat has experimented with different format styles. As the story involves Police taking testimonial of various suspects of the family the testimonial then shows their side or part of a story. This new addition increases the interest of the readers in the book.

WHAT DO I LIKE

            The things that I enjoyed reading this mystery book is the language of the book as it is simple and not complicated I enjoyed reading every bit of it. The second is the new narration format that the author has added as a bit of spice in this thriller is a bang on experience. Also this book is something that the author usually write but the way it have turned out is superb. Apart from everything the book involves it also shows and tells us small messages like Body shaming, Family money issues, Big business family functioning and Family honor and how all of it changes the life of individuals surrounding it.

THE CLIMAX

          Last 50 pages of the book is the most interesting part of the book as it involves suspense and it shows how story unfolds and we find out who actually has committed the sin. The climax is simple and is not like dark mystery which involves violence.

THE CONCLUSION

          If you are Chetan Bhagat fan you will surely find this book entertaining and amusing. It’s a simple romance-murder mystery with family drama as every Bollywood movie involve.

          According to me the book was simple but yet entertaining and I would surely recommend other readers to read it. I would rate this book 4 out of 5.
